Week 3 has arrived! I finally saw some football this past weekend, after spending the first Football Sunday getting updates from friends, draining my remaining cell phone battery while Hurricane Irma raged outside. I’ve been playing catch-up over the last week, and think I’ve found some solid plays for Week 3. Again, even though I don’t mention Antonio Brown, Mike Evans and Ezekiel Elliot, it doesn’t mean I think they aren’t good starts, but rather I’m focusing on the guys you may not be starting every week. Here are my Wide Receivers and Running Backs for Week 3…
Cooper Kupp – LA Rams @ San Francisco – Draftkings $4,700 / Fanduel $5,700 – Kupp’s fantasy performance didn’t meet the high expectations of owners who were expecting a repeat of the week 1 performance. I expect him to rebound against the San Francisco defense who struggled to stop Tyler Lockett and Doug Baldwin this past week, with each having six receptions. Kupp should again receive double digit targets and is a nice play in DFS.
Marqise Lee – Jacksonville vs Baltimore – Draftkings $4,400 / Fanduel $6,000 – Speaking of targets, Marqise Lee had twelve this past week, with seven receptions. This week, once again I’d expect the Jaguars to fall behind early against Baltimore, and for Lee to once again lead the team in targets. Hopefully he finds the end zone this week as well.
Martavis Bryant – Pittsburgh @ Chicago – Draftkings $5,700 / Fanduel $6,500 – Bryant did a lot with few targets this past week against the Vikings. This week in Chicago I expect Le’Veon Bell to finally get on track and for the passing game to open up a bit more for the Steelers. Bryant should see double the amount of targets he saw in week 2, and once again rewards owners for the start.
DeVante Parker – Miami @ NY Jets – Draftkings $6,300 / Fanduel $6,500 – Parker led the Dolphins in receiving yards and just missed a touchdown after being tackled on the two yard line against the Chargers. This week against the Jets I think he goes over 100 yards and gets his first touchdown on the season. The Jets did a nice job on Amari Cooper this past week while allowing the big day to Michael Crabtree, but with Jay Ajayi in the backfield and getting over twenty carries, I don’t think they will slow Parker down this week.
DaVante Adams – Green Bay vs Cincinnati – Draftkings $5,600 / Fanduel $6,800 – Adams will benefit from the absence of Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb this week. I do expect the Packers to run more in their absence, but Adams and Geronimo Allison both will see enough targets to both be solid plays against a struggling Bengals team.
Isaiah Crowell – Cleveland @Indianapolis – Draftkings $4,800 / Fanduel $6,600 – Crowell is averaging less than 3.0 ypc thus far, but this week the Browns shouldn’t be playing from behind early, and he could reach the 20 carry mark when they face the Colts defense that is already a bit banged up. Week 1, the Colts did hold Todd Gurley in check on the ground, but Chris Johnson was able to find running room in Week 2 against them. MLB, Antonio Morrison is still injured, and the Browns are down their top receiving option in Corey Coleman, so Crowell’s number should get called far more often than normal.
Ty Montgomery – Green Bay vs Cincinnati – Draftkings $6,900 / Fanduel $7,200 – Montgomery had 110 combined yards, rushing (35) and receiving (75), against the Falcons on Sunday night. Down Jordy Nelson and Randall Cobb the Packers will again rely heavily on him against Cincinnati, but I’d expect more rushing yardage if the Packers are able to grab an early lead. Rookie Jamal Williams may finally be a part of the game plan as well, but Montgomery will lead. He isn’t a bargain this week in DFS, but should meet owner expectations.
Chris Thompson – Washington vs Oakland – Draftkings $4,500 / Fanduel $5,600 – Washington is definitely having trouble finding a rhythm with their passing game this year, and this will lead to playing from behind against Oakland this week. When playing from behind Chris Thompson will be involved more heavily in the offense and is capable of explosive plays as we saw this past weekend. I’d expect him to be targeted 8 to 10 times and put up viable RB2 numbers in PPR formats this week.
Chris Johnson – Arizona vs Dallas – Draftkings $4,200 / Fanduel $5,700 – Chris Johnson was the best of the Arizona running backs this past week, and Coach Arians has already said that his snap count will go up. He should take over for Ellington who led the Cardinals rb’s in snaps this past week and faces a Dallas team who could not stop C.J. Anderson in Week 2. This is more of a risky play given how the carries were split up in Week 2, but I think Chris Johnson, who rejoined the Cardinals after the injury to David Johnson, is the best option available and the team will turn to him sooner rather than later.
Running Back Tandem of the Week
I had a very tough time deciding who to pick for the RB Tandem this week, and after much back and forth thinking I’m going with Samaje Perine and Chris Thompson. Washington ran the ball a ton in Week 2, perhaps because they weren’t very successful throwing it and were protecting a lead, but 36 carries to the running backs is showing confidence in the run game. Robert Kelley could have a fractured rib and will likely sit this week against the Raiders, so the bulk of the carries will go to Perine. Oakland’s defense is not great against the run by any means, so the only worry would be if they get up by multiple touchdowns early. I’m banking on this not happening, though I think they will be down and Chris Thompson will get more looks than usual in both the running and passing game.
