“James Addiction” D/ST Week #13 and Beyond plus IDP Targets

Welcome to Week 13, traditionally the final week of the fantasy football regular season. Whether you’ve already locked up a playoff spot or are hoping to this week, every point counts, so let’s take a look at the D/ST options for Week 13 and beyond. First, let’s take a look at Week 13. If you’re an owner that hasn’t already picked up your playoff D/STs, but are just taking it one week at a time and trying to work with what may be left on the wire. Then let’s take a look at the likely playoff D/ST holds and their Week 13 matchups and beyond.

Week # 13

If you’ve made it to this article, chances are you have made your fantasy playoffs or at least still have a chance to clinch a spot with a victory this week. If you’re part of the former group, you’ve probably looked ahead at playoff matchups and given some thought as to which defense you want to hold for your playoff stretch. If you haven’t, you may have to ride with what you’ve already got unless your league’s waiver wire has been neglected. If you’re part of the latter group and just need a good matchup for Week 13 and you’ll worry about what’s next after a win, then these are your best bets for Week 13…

Green Bay Packers vs Arizona Cardinals ($2,800 – DK / $4,400 – FD)

Green Bay is at home in a must-win situation as they look to climb back into the Wild Card race. Luckily, they face Arizona this week who is also in a tight race — for the first overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. The Cardinals have not played well of late. Let’s be honest, they haven’t played well all year, but particularly of late getting blowout twice and losing to the lowly Raiders. The Packers defense won’t have to worry about facing an offense this week with Thielen and Diggs and a quarterback who has time to get them the ball. This is the perfect opportunity for Green Bay to build momentum and with Kenny Clark providing pressure up the middle and leading sacker Kyler Fackrell coming off the edge, the Green Bay defense should provide fantasy points this week.
Seattle Seahawks vs San Francisco 49ers ($3,400 – DK / S4,600 – FD)

The Nick Mullens breakout seems to have come to an end after only one game. His last two outings haven’t gone as well with two interceptions in each outing and being sacked four times by Tampa’s defense in Week 12. Seattle on the other hand has gone 4-2 over their last six, only losing to the Rams and Chargers. Seattle has not been taking the ball away from teams as much as you’d like via the interception, but this week the ‘Hawks should limit the 49ers in both points and yards and add multiple sacks along the way, which could lead to a fumble or two.

Other possible waiver wires adds with positive matchups in Week 13 include: Indianapolis Colts, Buffalo Bills, Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans.

And Beyond

These are the teams I listed in last week’s article as playoff holds. My feelings are nearly the same though I’d likely now only use Washington as a last resort unless Colt McCoy improves and is able to sustain drives. There is one D/ST I left off of the list who is worthy, though I only like their Week 15 matchup at home versus Tampa Bay and that is the Baltimore Ravens. They would be a good pairing with teams like the Chargers or Patriots who have tough Week 15 matchups. Also, keep an eye on Cody Kessler and how he performs for the Jaguars this Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. His fantasy playoff opponents are Tennessee, Washington and Miami, who could all potentially turn into good starts if Kessler falters.

IDP Targets

Gerald Hodges (LB/Cardinals)

Josh Bynes injured his thumb in the first half last week against the Chargers and was sent to the IR this week. Gerald Hodges took his place in the lineup and led the Cardinals in tackles with ten despite not playing the full game. This week he should again put up decent tackle numbers though Green Bay runs less than most teams. I’m thinking with a big lead this week the Packers will finish the game out running with Jones and Williams.

Kyler Fackrell (OLB/Packers)

Fackrell is in his third year with Green Bay, but his first seeing a lot of playing team. The playing time has led to Fackrell leading the Packers in sacks with eight. Again, this week at home, he should be adding to the sack total against a bad Arizona offensive line.
Frank Clark (DE/Seahawks)

Clark is by far the best pass rusher on the Seahawks defense. He leads the team with 10 sacks and this week faces a 49ers team that gave up four sacks last week to Tampa Bay. Clark gives you little else in the form of fantasy stats, but with a sack or two this week could provide the production you need to win your Week 13 matchup.
Elijah Lee (LB/49ers)

Lee is the main beneficiary of the Reuben Foster release. While he is not yet playing over 90% of defensive snaps, he can provide fantasy production against a Seahawks team that likes to run the ball. He provided six solo tackles and an assist last week with the increased playing time.

Fantasy Baseball 2019 League Openings: What do you want? Competition or Boredom?

I grew up a Dallas Cowboy's fan in Washington Redskins' country, but I currently reside in Florida. I have played fantasy sports since 1999, but have narrowed it down to football only over the last few years. I have a beautiful daughter that keeps me busy and feeling young, and in my free time I write for Major League Fantasy Sports, play golf and spend time on outdoor activities.
