“Z-Man’s Thoughts” Wavier Wire Hitters Week 21

Under 50%

J.D. Davis- NYM (3B, OF)

Kevin Pillar- SF (OF)

Eric Sogard- TB (SS, 2B)

J.D. Davis has been a hot option for the Mets as of late, hes hit over .350 AVG over the past two weeks with 4 HR. One issue going for Davis is that he is day to day due to his calf. It’s not thought to be a serious injury and if he can continue to play every day that can help boost his value. I would be buying Davis in a 12 team league or a bench for 10 teams. Pillar always has a streak during the season where he’s one of the best hitters on the planet. Right now seems to be that time because he is hitting over .400 with some power and speed to contribute. He isn’t in a strong lineup and there is no way this can continue, but I would definitely jump on the bandwagon while you can. I would add him in all leagues if you have a spot, with the understanding that he will come back to earth. Sogard could be an option for deeper leagues that lost Tatis this past week. He has been hitting over .300 for the past month with an OPS over .900. He will not be a superstar for your team, but can be a short term option and it helps that he has multiple positions. He should be added in deeper leagues and could be a bench option for 12 team leagues.

Kyle Seager- SEA (3B)

Francisco Mejia- SD (C)

Nick Ahmed- ARI (SS)

Kyle Seager has quietly had a great month for the Mariners, He’s hit for a high average with some power. He was more prevalent a few years ago, but he has seem to find the fountain of youth and production. Over the past two weeks, he hit 6HR. He should be used in 12 team leagues if your third basemen is not as strong. Francisco Mejia is another catcher to find his way onto these articles. The once top prospect is starting to find his footing in a good Padre lineup. If you choose your catcher based on hot hand, it could be worth giving him a shot. Long term I may buy into Mejia next season. Nick Ahmed is a deep option for NL only players out there who lost Tatis. His past two weeks have seen a high average with some power that can help contribute. I would caution hesitation adding Ahmed unless it was absolutely necessary. There are many options out there, Ahmed is just one who has been hot as of late and will be available in most leagues out there.
